CAN SPEED BE TAUGHT

Watching Worlds and looking at the different body types in the sprints 100/200/400. Curious on opinion regarding sprinting and speed. Is this solely DNA or can World Class sprint speed be taught/learned?

Good sprinters are born not made. DeGrasse is the prime example

Yes, but would Degrasse ever have risen to the levels he has without any coaching? I don't think so.

Genetics are of course the limiting factor in any discipline - whether it be sprinting, distance running, jumping or throwing.

The real nature vs. nurture debate is around work ethic and the learning of technique. Can anyone be taught any skill? Why do some have better technique despite the same amount/ level of coaching?

Interesting question. Take for example Bolt and Rudisha. If each were coached a young age in the opposite direction - Bolt to the 800 , Rudisha to let say - 200. Would each have still reached World Class levels.

Yousef Masrahi of Saudi Arabia started his career as a 1500m runner and transitioned to a World Class 400m runner. (mind you, last years drug suspension may point to why)
