Dave "Python" Northey RIP

RIP. Great tough runner.

George's write up.

"Dave Northey's nickname was 'Python' due to his ability to accelerate with devastation and win races. He was at his best in the 1970s and 1980s when he won races like the Around The Bay (1:36:54 for 19.1 miles), the Waterloo Classic (31:19 for 10.3 km), the Berwick Run For The Diamonds (44:03 for 9.3 miles). He was 4th in Ottawa in 1978, running 2:18:55. He ran 29:45 for 10 km in 1978. Dave passed away yesterday at too young an age (68)."

Thanks for write up George, sad news to hear and I agree way too young an age.

Dave was one of the first elite road racer's that I was able to watch locally when growing up in the KW / Guelph area. Very nice person and I am sure he was an inspiration to many of my fellow high school distance runners of my era as he was to me. RIP Dave.

Any funeral arrangements known at this time? Dave was a pillar in the 70's as part of Blue North and than Waterloo County. Blue North group met at Blue North of the UofW athletic complex before tackling the hills of the north west corner of the county. The group took pride in going toe-to-toe with the then dominate TOC

Great runner and a humble, super nice man. He will be greatly missed.

Speaking of going toe to toe with TOC!

As per his wishes, there is no visitation or funeral planned for Dave Northey. Maybe at some point, his friends can get together for a tribute reunion.
