How many are there from UTTC and Flying Angels 2 fairly large teams?
Ottawa Lions a huge team sent less than 10 kids and zero coaches!

either way they sure better put on a good show or next year nobody will attend.

"Thank you so much for he clarification. I think there are many confused parents and coaches here in BC who were not aware of the restrictions in number of athletes.

One of the weaknesses at BC Athletics is their website is so poorly designed that it is extremely difficult to find information on the website.

One thing that is frustrating for many is that there are a much larger percentage of throwers making the team than runners which has been the situation for years. Yes we have extremely strong throwers in BC but the number representing the province is out of proportion to the participation. And we have many excellent sprinters and middle distance runners

One question...we do you not allow 14 yr olds to make the U16 team? The fastest U16 male in BC is 14 yet he does not make the team while a slower 15 yr old does?"

Good questions. In regards to many throwers making the team, I'd suggest that this is a because BC throwers have been nationally more competitive than other event groups. Currently, here are BC's top ranked U18 athletes: (XY = Male, XX = Female)

    100/200/400/110H/400mH (Group Average = 7.6)
    XY: 20/18/6/8/2
    XX: 6/1/4/1/10

    800/1500/3000/Steeple (Group Average = 4.6)
    XY: 4/10/10/1
    XX: 7/2/2/1

    DT/HT/JT/SP (Group Average = 1.75)
    XY: 2/1/1/4
    XX: 2/1/1/2

    HJ/LJ/TJ/PV (Group Average = 2.4)
    XY: 2/1/1/1
    XX: 1/4/2/7

This year BC's U18 Team had:
    8 Throwers
7 Jumpers (including 1 who also qualified for Decathlon)
    5 Middle Distance
    3 Sprint/Hurdlers
    2 Racewalkers
1 Decathlon (also counted in Jumper)

Because racewalk and combined events don't have high enough participation numbers to be statistically consistent, I haven't included them. Our top throwers are the highest nationally ranked group, and they have the highest representation on the team. The jumpers are the next highest nationally ranked group, and they have the next highest representation on the team. This follows with middle distance and sprints.

This document in the link below may be interesting: It was done in 2015 and shows in complete detail which athletes (including event groups) are making national teams and earning podium finishes at national championships. It shows a similar picture of where our strength lies nationally.

The reason that 14 year olds do not make the U16 team is that the committee has decided to restrict the U16 team to 15 year olds. Changing this has been discussed, but it was decided to leave it at 15s only. I don't think it would accurate if I tried to summarize discussions and points everyone had from meetings 9 and 21 and 33 months ago.

Sigh.......is it just me or these Legions disappointing. Thank god they had someone young volunteers with iPads to film it but really is that the best AC and the Legion can do? Why is Trackie.TV not filming and commentating? It's a national championships for heaven sakes!

It looks like the infield is farm land. Could they have cut the grass the week of the event? How about a little water too.

move it back to Langley....please. Best facilities for Legions

Trackie is free when you watch live. You only need to pay when you watch archived events

I'm sorry but I tried watching this morning and gave up it was ridiculous.
Nice volunteer effort but this rests on the organizers. They have a lot of work to do for 2018.

I understand that sod was only laid the week before by volunteers. Probably should have been done earlier, but what the "hay" LOL

I am pretty sure Athletics Canada has little to do with the Youth Championships. It probably all comes down to budget. How much is it worth to do a live stream?

I just returned from Brandon and had two days of driving to return home and think about my impressions.

    1. Unfortunate that many of our top ranked athletes did not attend. Why?
    2. Location choice was horrible. Why they chose a location that was difficult and expensive to reach blows MyBell mind. This might explain #1
    3. Time of year is all wrong. Mid August is too late it extends the track season too long and bump s into XC
    4. Lack of hotels and restaurants other than fast food and low end family restaurants
    5. Facilities were disappointing.
    6. Cut the grass, water the grass

I think Legions are now irrelevant and if no value to many families Andrew athletes. Family's of 3 to attend you are looking at $1500 plus. The timing is too late in the season.

As a family we will not attend again unless it's in Ontario

I believe that Legion's is usually a week earlier, but was bumped back a week due to Canada Games.

Also, by looking at pictures, it looks as though there were no stands with the exception of a few wooden bleachers. Can you confirm? If so, poor choice of venue with so many people attending.
