Seems to be the clear-cut favourite heading into Worlds, especially without Gallagher.

The beer mile is getting big time! Just out of curiosity, is beermile.com no longer the central authority for rules? I thought that you had to drink your first beer behind the mile start line (Rule #3 @ http://www.beermile.com/rules) Additionally, what's the rule on completing beers? I heard that there was some rule that the remaining beer from the four beers couldn't fill up a shot glass. Super impressive run Lewis! Looking forward to when the WRHs race each other!

The rule is you must start your beer at the mile start line and have until the 1600 start line to finish it. Either way you are still covering the full 1609 meters. I wouldn't be surprised if some people varied the rules slightly though, it's a bit like drinking games. By all means legal though!

I think you missed addressing the heart of my concern. The trouble with the beer mile and setting records in it is that the rules need to be uniform. I was under the assumption that beermile.com was the central authority that we allowed to set the rule by which records could be set. There the rules state that you must finish your first, and only your first beer behind the start line, all other beers are to be consumed in the transition zone. You'll note that in James Nielson's 4:57 he finishes his first beer behind the line https://youtu.be/HZ-XFC5qzyM?t=3m21s but at the FloTrack World Championships last year they didn't and starting moving forward at the gun. The difference is maybe two seconds, which is significant for records.

It doesn't really matter which way it's run, but it needs to be consistent if you want to set records. I agree that you should be able to walk while drinking the first beer, because indeed you are covering the same distance, but I was just posting an open question asking what authority we should trust to govern the beer mile and officiating it. The rules must be consistent. What should be the rule for first beer drinking location, and what should be the rule for amount of beer left behind?

Sidenote, I think Phil drank one of his beers there in about 3 or 4 seconds. Impressive haha
