Beliefs about 'talent' affect how we respond to challenges, the way we think about our goals and accomplishments, and how we interact with people. For many coaches, parents, and athletes, misunderstandings about ‘talent’ continue to constrain how they think about their long-term development and achievement. Join the discussion as we hear from Dr. Joe Baker, the professor and head of the Lifespan Performance Laboratory at York University. His research and latest book titled “The Tyranny of Talent: How it compels and limits athletic achievement… and why you should ignore it” considers the varying influences on optimal human development, ranging from issues affecting athlete development and skill acquisition to barriers and facilitators of optimal aging.
