Great coaches have always known that races aren’t won only with VO2max and lactate threshold and other “physical” traits. But scientists have only recently started to delve into the role of the mind in setting our physical limits. In this talk, Alex Hutchinson will discuss what the latest science tells us about the limits of endurance, and how that knowledge can be incorporated into training and racing plans.

Alex is an author and journalist in Toronto, and the author of the recent New York Times bestseller ENDURE: Mind, Body, and the Curiously Elastic Limits of Human Performance. His primary focus these days is the science of endurance and fitness, which he covers for Outside (where he's a contributing editor and writes the Sweat Science column), The Globe and Mail (where he writes the Jockology column), and Canadian Running magazine.

Alex also holds the indoor 1500m record at McGill University and represented Canada on several occasions.
