Where's all the thousands of girls and young women who wanted to run longer distances? Who wanted to train for 10,000m? Where are they now?

Your trolling is over-simplifying a complex issue that is much larger than just the current CDN Champs 10,000m entries. It also takes away from the great work being done with this event and the outstanding athletes participating. Please stop.

Ignoring the pure stupidity of your statement, set any cynicism aside and appreciate what has been accomplished in the first year of this event.

When was the last time 10,000m fields of this caliber were assembled in Canada? Probably not since the the Harry Jerome Meet dropped the 10,000m.

When was the last time a 5,000m in Canada had 150+ entries, with the likes of Dylan Wykes and Rob Watson pacing? Probably never.

When was the last time a 1,500m in Canada had 120+ entries, other than Steve's 1,500m Night? Probably never in Western Canada.

    Sit back and enjoy tonight.

In 2012 there were 2 women. In 2013 there were 4, with 3 finishers. In 2014 there were 3. In 2015 there were 10, with 9 finishers. In 2016 there were 12, with 8 finishers. In 2017 there were 5. So this is the largest women's field in that timeframe. Really great work from the organizers to get this so big in the first year trying. Is it the largest women's field ever? It's not like the fields were likely big before then either, but maybe someone will recall.

For three of the same years, 2015-2017, the men's fields were larger than this year, with 26-29 lining up and 21-25 finishing. However, 19 starting is quite good for a 10,000m on the track in Canada.

Looking at the number AND quality of entries in the 1500m and 5000m this event is going to be a huge success.

Congrats to BC Athletics for putting it together. I hope this will be an annual event even if it does not involve a 10,000 meter race.

To the people who 'liked' Buddy's post, did you even bother to compare the male:female ratios in the 1,500m and 10,000m at this meet? FFS

Women's interest in the 1500m vs 10000 was implicated in your initial post. Are you capable of doing the basic math to compare relative interest between events?

I'll say it again, with slightly different words:

"Buddy" is the worst poster in the history of trackie. Even The Banned One had some redeeming qualities from time to time. Buddy sprays bullets in every direction, offering absolutely zero in the form of constructive criticism at every juncture. He/she has never amounted to anything postive/meaningful at this site, or likely in this sport.

Great night. Only downside was the poor sound quality - very hard to hear the announcer at times.
