Good job by Van Buskirk and Stafford. Their starting times were not even in the top 20 and they were very close to make it to a very competitive final. Both managed a PB and broke 4:10. Van Buskirk in particular ran pretty well, I think, and lost what turned out to be the last qualifying spot in the last meters of her race.

Let's hope Damian Warner can keep it up and medal, this may be one of his last chances in a major competition.

There are only 4 men on the WIC team. So far, Damian Warner is doing damn well in the Hep. He set new PRs in the HJ ( 2.02 m ), and in SP, and is in second place.
The remaining three men compete today in SP, PV, & 60m H. ( Nedow, Barber, & Cabral respectively )
Van Buskirk & Stafford excelled in the 1,500m, in my opinion. I was a little disappointed about the women’s 800m.
Angela Whyte as always performed well, just missing Q, as did Crystal Emmanuel. Our 3 400m runners gave it a good shot.
Between the Commonwealth Games in Oz, and the NCAA season, things are going reasonably.

Update on Damian Warner : he just set a third PR in PV with 4.90m, and is 34 points behind Kevin Mayer in 1st place, and well clear of 3rd with only the 1,000m remaining. He can run a decent 1,500m, so he could win at 1,000m. His 400m speed is ahead of the field as well.
His new PR in the SP was 14.90m. That makes 3 new PRs.

Westaway was gutsy, trying to run a very fast heat and qualify by time, but went way too fast and burnt out in the last 200.

Nedow did fine, SB, but it was a very competitive final, with the 8th guy at 20.99, and several national and area records.

The heptathlon is very tight, with the top 4 guys closely bunched together. Almost anything can happen in that last 1000m. Warner could even get gold, but he could also be passed by one of the two guys right behind him...

You or anybody else don't get to decide what other people can and cannot say to the media. that freedom of speech. The media exists to provide transparency and to keep organizations in check. That's freedom of the media.

Sally Pearson did qualify for the hurdles final, but don’t count her out at the Commonwealth Games. She is like Angela Whyte.

Damian Warner placed 2nd, 5 pts behind the winner, Kevin Mayer, with 6,343 pts. It is a new Canadian indoor record. Damian won the 1,000m in 2:37.12, another PR. An outstanding Hep. performance. Considering his best events are the 100m, the 100m H, the 400m, and the LJ,
he should do extremely well outdoors in the Dec. His LJ was off, yet he strenghthened his 3 weakest events: HJ, PV, & SP. I’m assuming that he is going to Oz for the Commonwealth Games.

Alysha Newman set a PR, and a new Canadian indoor record in 6th place with a vault of 4.70m.
She improves steadily and is at the highest level in World PV.

Watched the CBC coverage, and saw that Damian is no longer using that elementary school technique that he used to use in the SP. Halleluilia , he is now using the O’Brien glide.
The CBC coverage was good, except for the announcer assisting Michael Smith. What a lack of track and field knowledge !

    First sentence: true

Last two: that’s the idea, but they aren’t doing a very good job of that in current times.
