Andre Ford-Azonwanna

I want to see this young man run the 400m dash again.
In 2011 he posted a time of :48.56 seconds. He was only 15. He's now 22 and can run 20.69 for 200m. Why do I feel Andre can run a :44? Anything under :45 would place him Top 10 the World.

Should his training program start focussing more towards racing 200's and 400's as opposed to 100's and 200's?

I'd love to see him run one, but with his 5'7 (being generous) frame he'd need to be have incredible efficiency and turnover to run 44 off a 20.69 PB. He also runs 10.2x in the 100m, so his 100m/200m conversion isn't amazing, suggesting that a 44 would be very tough.

I still think he's got a good future in the 100m, maybe not as the phenom he was back in his early high school years, but he's a strong contender for the 2020 relay pool.

He definitely has great turn over, and a future in the 100. His main issue is trying to time the gun and false starting ( most recently at Harry Jerome and Nationals ).

I think he can run sub 10.1 if he relaxes towards the end of the race. I've seen him race a few times and I usually see him straining his face, neck pretty much everything, which decelerates him even more. He's about 5'6/5'7, so his height is definitely not going for him in the 400m. Taller people have it good in the homestraight because they have longer strides, whereas someone like Andre Ford would have to keep his turnover high even in the incredible pain and fatigue in the homestraight. I think Ford is fine as a 100/200 guy, I would like to see Makinde and Brendon Rodney into 400m races more
