Why do shorter distance runners have bigger egos?

From my experience running with a variety of athletes (some sprinters, mostly mid and long D runners) it always seems that as the race distance gets shorter the athletes egos get bigger. what's up with this?

You’d have a huge ego too if hundreds of coaches were willing to spend hundreds of dollars to hear you philosophize your wack ideas.
