NYC just announced schools out until April 20th at least.

Time to set up a Strava virtual OFSAA!

Is it safe to assume that all outdoor track meets for Ontario high schools will be cancelled this year?

"Anyone noticed that you don't hear ay news out of China now?

New reported cases have been dropping but natural that is not he message that media or social media dooms-dayers want to promote.

This is no goin to go away in a few weeks it takes time. Most jurisdictions have enacted a law banning social gatherings of over 50 people or at last 60 days. That puts us at early May. If anyone has dreams of a high school track season end the dream now."

China has only had one new case and getting back to normal. There closing there temp hospitals , starting back with everything and it’s been a month Since it all started. Yet we’re acting like we need to shut down until September. This is ridiculous and over blown!

There is also significant evidence that the virus started in China months before they alerted the international community (Nov/Dec). If that’s the case, that takes us well past the HS season.

You guys in Ontario are basically in the same situation as us out here in BC where schools are now closed indefinitely and BCSS has cancelled the spring sport’s indefinitely.
One date for re-opening schools, that may have slipped out, is April 20. Unfortunately I think the spring track season is done.

started a month ago? You are mistaken. There were cases in China in December. Don’t post if you don’t know the facts!

There is no way highschool track will happen. This two week closure after March break will be extended significantly, and by the time school comes back they will not be worrying about sports, they’ll be trying to make sure everyone can actually get their credits.

It's not ofsaa it's self thats too soon, the qualifying meets begin in early may, and the virus wont be tame enough to have those. My guess is mid to late may some open meets take place, but no school season.

Some people are living in an altered state of reality, if they think that there should even be an OFSAA championships. Many Ontarioans will be fighting for their lives. Who gives a damn about anything else ?

Wuhan was shut down on January 17th, about one month after the first cases were reported. On Jan 17th they had 547 cases and 17 deaths, not far off Canada’s numbers today.

When you say they were shut down for one month, you are wrong. It’s been two.

There’s much more important things to be concerned about the HS track and field. Get over it, it’s very likely the Olympics won’t even happen this year.

The first qualifying meets are middle of May. Then the subsequent meets follow up to Ofsaa in June. Plenty of time. Seems like people are trying to get this cancelled. They have had every other sport this year. Let’s just wait and see and stop fear mongering.

Lobster - this has been in said in many threads; yes the trial tragedy is what the virus and it's impact on people's lives, however, this does not mean that people aren't permitted to be upset with other impacts as well.

Yes -- obviously, the track season is not the most important thing on everyone mind right now, but people are allowed to talk about how disappointing that is as well.

Perhaps, like many wise-mothers once said " if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it"

Anyways, OP - I don't believe OFSAA will happen, as mentioned above, it's the qualifying meets that are the problem. If anything, there will be a track season pushed back 2-3months ie: July-August for main meets for U16/U18 as opposed to May/June.

Just a thought, assuming things begin to simmer down in late April or May -- we have the luxury of being a mainly non-contact sport and with fewer spectators than the majors, so we might be one of the first sports back to normality?

Team Canada is not sending athletes to to the olympics. So even if the schools come back I guess they decided OFSAA isn’t worth it.

Just a couple general questions and observations:

    1) why are so many full grown ADULTS completely obsessed with a TEENAGE track and field meet? Like, some posters here actually talk about specific KIDS. It’s creepy and weird.

    2) if every other sporting event and league in the world, including now the mother of them all (the Olympics) are now cancelled or postponed, why in the name of God would a track meet for high schoolers still go on? This is a moot point anyway as school is basically cancelled in Ontario.

    3) how come nobody from Quebec, Alberta, BC or other regions as obsessed with high school sports as this province? I get that we have the largest population, but you never see people from those provinces creepily discussing the development of a bunch of kids.

    4) why are all of you who comment on OFFSA (and every other post for that matter) basically ONLY concerned about middle to long distance running? You do know that there are other events in track AND field right? Oh, and then there’s the fact that all of you completely and totally ignore Para-Athletics, which is horrible.

Seriously, the fact that a bunch of middle aged, able bodied, totally out of shape white guys are trying to live out their failed distance running careers/fantasies through a bunch of CHILDREN is pathetic and disgusting. Especially when there is a global pandemic happening that is literally killing our neighbours. There, I said it.

How many of the posters are actually full grown adults? Since they're anonymous, how would you even know?
