Yorku Outdoor track being destroyed!!

Just 3.5 years after Pan Am the York Lions Stadium will have its track removed for a minor league soccer team. York promised to keep the track. What a load of bull.

Tried many time to permit this track and never hear back. They were never interested in making it work.

Soccer bigger than Running and Field Events. Long term, this facility will make more money as a soccer stadium, especially with the plans York Region has in the next 20 years.

News Flash - the soccer field is already there. You don't need to take out a track to play soccer.

Stop crying and use the Toronto Track & Field Centre.

You want other tracks to train at in the North York or North Toronto area, you can easily permit out 6 lane Esther Shiner, or 8 lane Downsview Park, if you don't want to use TTFC.

    Other tracks in Toronto area.
If you don't mind driving, drive out west to Centennial Park, permit their track and use the track there, or drive out east to Monarch Park or Birchmount Stadium. Or permit out St Michaels College, Father Henry Carr, Bill Crothers, Upper Canada College, Central Tech, Michael Power, etc.

Or you can try non rubberized tracks such as
North Toronto Collegiate (nicely paved), Lawrence Park Collegiate (needs to be repaved), Northern SS (Garbage Track), Leaside (Dirt Track a little better than Northerns), William Lyon Mackenzie (another garbage track), Newtonbrooke Secondary School (garbage), John Polanyi (garbage dirt), Dante (garbage dirt), St. Timothy Catholic School (Nicely Paved), George Vanier Secondary School (garbage track), Brebeuf (garbage track), St. Joes (garbage track), etc,

You are making it seem like the Pan Am Track is such a huge staple in your training. Like you absolutely need it as if it's going to give you super powers and you're going to become the next Usain Bolt or Bekele. Cry less and do your training elsewhere, and forget the whole "soccer fields can have a track around it" attitude. This isn't an Olympic Stadium to cater to the needs of you and the few who want it to be.

And I'm sure there are lots more in the City.

TT / Paul - typical anger issues. Shame, you have the ability to bring good points but continue to mask them with child-like attitude.

    Wow - touchy aren't you?

I don't live in the Centre of the Universe - so I don't give a damn where else I could go and train.

The point is, the funds were given to York, and promises were made to keep the track. I guess you enjoy being bilked out of millions of $$ and being lied to, you must be a politician.

York's smokescreen that they need to remove the track to build a soccer facility are completely bogus. I'm simply pointing that out.

TrollT, for someone who supposedly cares about the sport, you are quick to put it down. Try advocating for it sometime.

Paul, most athletes don't train exclusively. At some point they actually compete in meets. Some athletes even compete in national/international calibre meets.

Other than U of T, what other facilities in the city are capable of hosting a national championships or international level meet?

Since you are so good at listing track and field facilities, can you provide a list of all such facilities in Canada that would be equivalent to the York Lions stadium?

Ehhhhh, speak for yourself dude. The Terminal Mile is on pace to have growth in numbers this year...again. That doesn't really speak to nobody caring about track and field.

I'm so confused. Why are we sending links? Doesn't this entire trackie forum represent those who are engaged in a track and field discussion and therefore track and field?

If you are confused, that's a good start. Anyone who thinks they know what is going on here, clearly doesn't have a clue.
