That's a good old fashioned spanking. Pretty sure Berhe and Jarry are decent runners so putting TEN in front of them is no small feat. Wow. Toughest thing will be deciding top 7.

So muddy + two little hills. Fast course if there wasn't that much muddy curves.

They might not be officially in RSEQ. That's a guess.

Just so you know, CPT ran and came a second behind Thibeault (4th overall). Apparently he was pretty fit coming in. Just goes to show where these guys rank.

Top 10 guys in a 60 second spread... top 7 in 40 seconds... And missing Manu, usually a lock for top 5, that could not finish with a sprained ankle (course was very wet, technical and muddy).

Good luck to their coach for choosing the team...

To put this in perspective-- Laval put 3 in before CPT who is fit and a 3:34 guy who is good at XC, and 9 (not including one of their guys who is a multiple time All Canadian sprained an ankle) in front of Berhe who is an 8:21 3k guy and there's nothing to indicate that Berhe is not on form. Back in 12th behind ten Laval guys is Francois Jarry who is no slouch either-- 8:18/14:20/30:00 this year. There is absolutely no way this team loses (unless the race is rigged that is and I won't accept the result :) ).

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Charles was either 1. really very much NOT fit, or much more likely 2. Really very much not trying to win. "To put this in to perspective"- the guy was 3rd at Nationals last year when he was almost certainly in worse shape than he is now (at the very least not any better). So unless you believe that laval is going to sweep Nationals in Kingston, or that they have 3 or 4 sub 13:50 5k runners, then your proposition is outlandish. Personally I'd say it must be intentionally ignorant.

How can you say that Charles was 'certainly in worse shape last year after third place than he is now'

I can guarantee you that he was training much harder with a solid few months of aerobic work under his belt at 2015 xc nationals. Do you really think he is in better shape now? After taking a big break from his Olympic year, drinking and probably not running for a few weeks. I bet you he only has a few weeks of running under his belt this fall. And is 'certainly' not in the same sort of shape he was last November.

Don't you know that last year CPT got back issues and have been obliged to take a really break? Still have a month before XC nationals. I would say that this means 1. Laval boys are in shape or 2. Course was so technical and muddy that CPT couldn't go fast on it.

Don't forget that Thibeault is still double 2016 CIS champion (1500m and 3k) + 3k Steeplechase bronze medalist at Olympics trials... CPT didn't loose against everyday normal runners... Sikubwabo and Thibeault are impressive.

Regardless of CPT's current fitness, the 8:21 and 8:18/30:00 guys they piled in front of give a pretty good measuring stick.
