Did Matt Walters pull something? Didn't seem so.

I think he pulled up because he wasn't going to get FISU standard so decided to save it for another day although not sure he had to pull up as much as he did...?

If indeed it wasn't an injury (not confirmed, I must stress) then you wonder about the optics of saving it for another day (again, this is speculation). This was a race (not a workout or TT), and people volunteer their time to officiate, some (though unfortunately a scant few) come out to watch, and the other athletes were competing against this athlete. In light of all of this, I would really hope that "saving it for another day" wasn't the reason for the athlete jogging it in.

I expect Matt felt a lot of pressure to not only break, but be well under, the FISU qualifying standard. While he could have made a different decision, I doubt he was actually sorting through rational thoughts in the final 100m, but more a matter of @$%@#$%fml. He's a great competitor and I hope to see him bounce back quickly.

No doubt he'll be back soon, as you say Steve. If your speculation on what happened is correct, there's no doubt we all make under-duress decisions that we later regret. Will he have another chance now to make standard?
