Posts: 57354cans vs bottles said 7 years ago
I thought it was against the rules to use bottles? Was this a recent change in the rules? I noticed the Flotrack Beer Mile World Champ most also used bottles. Isn't it an advantage to use bottles (330ml) vs cans (355ml). With the less liquid in a bottle why would you EVER want to drink out of cans?

Wow. Since it took him about 2.5 minutes to run the last 2 laps, he drank 8 beer in fewer than 12 minutes (while running). Try this sometime (without running) and see how you feel.

At what point does this behaviour become dangerous? At a certain point alcohol depresses the ability to vomit so the body can't rid itself of the poison. Four beers in 5 minutes is stupid. Eight in 12 ? Is that verging on lethal?

Your stomach can't hold 2.84L of liquid, no matter who you are. That alone makes you vomit. Quote comment -

Have faith!
Johnson, George B. Holt Biology: Visualizing Life. Orlando: Holt, Rinehart & Winston, 1994: 769. "The stomach can expand to hold up to 4 L (4.2 qts.) of food, more than 50 times its empty volume."

I think "can" and "should" may be a big difference here. The fact that the stomach "should" not hold 2.84L consumed while running will make you vomit, even if specific training "can" allow the expansion for 4L. Quote comment
