FIREWEED RUNNERS
A program of Run for Life
PARTICIPANT WAIVER, RELEASE OF LIABILITY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK, AND MEDIA RELEASE
1. Acknowledgement of Risk
I, the undersigned participant (or, if the participant is a minor, the undersigned parent/legal guardian),
understand that participation in Fireweed Runners activities — including but not limited to group runs,
training
sessions, clinics, and races organized under this program — involves inherent risks. These risks include,
without limitation, uneven or unpredictable terrain, road and trail conditions, weather (including
extreme cold,
heat, ice, or wildlife encounters), traffic, physical exertion, collision with other participants, equipment
failure,
and the general risks associated with outdoor physical activity in the Yukon. I understand these risks
cannot
be eliminated regardless of the care taken by the organizers to avoid injury.
I confirm that I am voluntarily participating and that I am physically fit and able to take part, or have
consulted
a physician if I have any concern about my ability to safely do so.
2. Release of Liability and Waiver of Claims
In consideration of being permitted to participate in Fireweed Runners activities, I, on behalf of myself,
my heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns, hereby release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to
sue:
• Run for Life (the non-profit organization under which Fireweed Runners operates), its directors,
officers,
employees, and volunteers;
• The Fireweed Initiative and its principal, Natalie Thivierge in her capacity as founder and director of
Fireweed Runners;
• The City of Whitehorse, its officers, employees, agents, and volunteers;
from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, or causes of action
whatsoever arising out of or related to any loss, damage, or injury, including death, that may be
sustained by
me, or to any property belonging to me, while participating in Fireweed Runners activities, whether
caused by the negligence of the Released Parties or otherwise, except where caused by the gross
negligence or wilful
misconduct of a Released Party.
I further agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties from any loss, liability, damage, or
cost
they may incur due to my participation, whether caused by my own negligence or otherwise.
3. Medical Treatment Authorization
In the event of an injury or medical emergency during a Fireweed Runners activity, I authorize the
Released
Parties to secure emergency medical treatment on my behalf, including transportation to a medical
facility,
and I agree to be financially responsible for any costs associated with that treatment.
4. Media Release and Consent
I understand that Fireweed Runners, Run for Life, and the City of Whitehorse may take photographs,
video, or
audio recordings during Fireweed Runners activities for the purpose of promotion, funding and
sponsorship
reporting, community outreach, and social media.
I grant permission for my image, voice, and/or likeness to be:
Photographed and/or video recorded during Fireweed Runners activities;
Used by Run for Life, Fireweed Runners, and the City of Whitehorse in print, digital, and social
media
materials, including newsletters, websites, grant/sponsorship reports, and promotional materials;
Reproduced, published, or distributed without further compensation to me.
I understand this consent is voluntary and I may request that a specific photo or video not be used by
contacting Fireweed Runners directly. I release the Released Parties from any claims arising from the use
of
such images or recordings, including any claims of defamation or invasion of privacy.
5. Governing Law
This agreement shall be governed by the laws of the Yukon Territory and the laws of Canada applicable
therein. I confirm that I have read this document in full, understand its contents, and sign it voluntarily,
with full
knowledge of its significance.
Template only — this document has not been reviewed by legal counsel. Before use, confirm this
