What happened to the 'standards' for open athletes? If there are no standards don't put them in the technical package. If there is a standard hold to them & don't let those who haven't met them compete. So confusing for club coaches & athletes.

The meet needs the open athletes, so the standards are not really necessary. It is a nice mixture of university, college and high school athletes, just like the UofT meets.

The problem is that there were standards published, and they were fairly high. As a result, I didn’t send many of my athletes, many who could have used the competition this weekend. When you see results with club athlete entered who are way off the standards, it is very frustrating, especially when your own athletes would have placed highly. Either enforce entry standards or do away with them. Quote comment -

"Distance standouts:
Sonia Gaskin 1:30.58 for 600m, new meet record*
Abdullahi Hassan 1:21.67 for 600m and the kid is only in Grade 10. Keep him on the radar. Hope he stays healthy :)
Tristin Rowe 2:33.43 for 1000m and the kid is in Grade 11. Also keeping him on the radar and hope he stays healthy :)
Akiva Goldberg 4:01.69 for 1500m."
Previous 600m record was held by Nicky Knapp a 2:02 800m Canadian champ and national team member. Hope Sonia goes on to do run a decent 800!This post was edited by a Moderator [Issues] 5 years ago .Quote comment
