With her SFU career just months in the rearview mirror, former NAIA champion Jessica Smith ran the race of a lifetime to qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. In the final pre-Olympic qualifying race at Swangard Stadium, Smith became just the fourth Canadian woman to run the 800-metres in under two minutes, bettering the qualifying standard by 4/100ths of a second.
