This is the online registration page for the Zone 5 BC Winter Games Qualifier.

Residency: Athletes must permanently reside in Zone 5.

A quick reminder of the requirements:

The permanent residence of the athlete must be in Zone 5 regardless of where their dojo is.

Age Description:

Athletes must be 12 or 13 years of age as of February 27, 2026. Athletes must be born between February 28, 2012, and February 27, 2014, inclusively.

Athletes must register in advanced categories if any of the following applies to them:

1. They have achieved a blue belt or higher in karate,

2. They have achieved 3rd Kyu or above in karate,

3. They have tried out or qualified for the BC Team in the 2024-2025 season or prior, or

4. They have participated in a Karate BC Provincial Championships or a Canada Open Karate

Championships in an advanced, black belt or Elite category prior to November 1, 2025.

Athletes are considered intermediate athletes if all of the following apply to them:

1. They possess a green belt or lower in karate,

2. They are 4th kyu or below in karate,

3. They have never tried out nor qualified for the BC Team program in the 2024-2025 season or prior, and

4. They have never participated in a Karate BC Provincial Championships nor a Canada Open Karate Championships in an advanced, black belt or Elite category prior to November 1, 2025.


QUALIFIER EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

KATA: White Karate Gi, red/blue belts

KUMITE: White Karate Gi, red/blue belts, mouthguard, groin protector for males, red/blue WKF style gloves, Shin and Foot Protectors, External Body Protector (waiting on confirmation from KBC), WKF Helmet (waiting on confirmation from KBC)


Format/Rules:

Kata: Aggregate scores for two different katas

Kumite: See KBC Non-Elite 12 and over Rule Modifications.

Athletes must compete in the divisions they will compete in at the Games in February. There will be a variance of less than 2.0 cm allowed.
