The sub 4 minute mile has always been a benchmark standard in athletics. At one point it marked the unattainable, beyond the measure of us mortals...that is, until an English man named Roger Bannister came along in 1954, and, well, you know the rest of that story. While the mile is not run with as much frequency now, especially in Canada, the sub 4 still stands as a mark that separates good middle distance runners from great ones. On this week's show, we go way back to two very important points in Canadian Athletics history and it's relation to the mile. 50 years ago a man by the name of Dave Bailey ran the first sub 4 by a Canadian, Dave joins us to talk about that, training and the importance of athletics and giving back, also Jason Beck, from the BC Sports Hall Of Fame and author of The Miracle Mile: Stories of the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games sits down to talk about the legendary 1954 Miracle Mile: the first sub 4 on Canadian soil, and the first mile race in the world with 2 finishers under that legendary 4 minute mark.
