Other Information

Registration is now open for the Odd Squad 2026 Duke of Edinburgh Expedition (DOE) to Nootka Island. Leaving Burnaby BC on August 30th returning to Burnaby BC Sept 5th. This trip is open to all Odd Squad Police Judo students registered in the DOE program (youth must be age 13.5 years of age and older must be registered in Odd Squad's Police Judo programs - for youth not yet registered in the DOE program, we can assist you with this). There will be an inventory day scheduled to sort and assign hiking equipment from Odd Squad, and there will be a mandatory prep hike that all participants must do prior to this trip.
This trip involves travelling by ferry to Vancouver Island - one night of camping in Tashis on Aug 30th, and then water taxi transport to Nootka Island on the 31st of August. Back country permits will be arranged for all hikers. This will involve 4 nights and 5 days of West Coast hiking on the iconic Nootka Island Expedition Trail. Expect challenging terrain, wet conditions, and be prepared for West Coast Weather. Water taxi transportation will be provided for the return from the trip on Sept 4th, and one night of camping will be arranged for Sept 4th in the Campbell River area before returning to the Lower Mainland by ferry on Sept 5th, 2026.
Odd Squad will help support youth on this trip based on volunteer hours contributed to Odd Squad. The deposit fee for youth will be $180.00 and the deadline for registering for this trip is Aug 3, 2026. OSP will subsidize the total youth costs based on the volunteer hours contributed to the OSP programs including facility work, coaching work, event assistance, refereeing, time-keeping, etc. Reconciliation for the total youth costs, taking into account donor support and volunteer hours, will be done at the completion of this trip.
Please include your shirt size on the registration form as there will be an outdoor Nootka Island Expedition shirt provided for each participant.
The Odd Fellows Lodge #90, Les Garbutt, and the Vancouver Rotary Club have all provided financial support for this trip - and we appreciate this support!
