It rained steadily the entire time and was pretty cold - it was only about 7 degrees at one point. It looks like a lot of people dropped out too, due to the bad weather.

This meet overall was a bit of a disappointment if you ask me, definitely the worst meet of the NTL series. Wonder if they will continue to have this as part of the series, as the west coast meets appear to attract a lot more high caliber athletes in general.

Just curious why you think this - didn't make it out last night because of the weather but have been going most years for the past decade, the most recent being last year. It is usually a great time. Was it just bad this year because of the weather or have you noticed things over the years that make this meet worse than those out west (I have never been to a meet out west).

I was very disappointed in the fair weather track fans of Halifax. Good money was spent to bring great athletes into Halifax to compete. There were almost no scratches in the NTL sections, aside from two or three in the 200m and always by athletes who had already run the 100m, and the athletes competed hard in conditions that were sometimes borderline dangerous. I also go every year and this was one of the most impressive displays of athleticism and guts that I've seen at a track meet and there was almost nobody in the crowd! Kevin Heisler and his committee work hard every year to bring this kind of meet to the Maritimes but in my opinion the Halifax track and field community dropped the ball this year by not toughing out the conditions with the athletes.

From what I can see, local coaches are not encouraging kids / parents / families to attend high level meets as spectators.

The faces I see at NTL are not the faces I see every weekend at track meets. Coaches and clubs need to step up in their promotion of the sport.

That is just a little bit negative. Are you suggesting that we no longer hold meets in the more distant regions of the country, and just focus on a few centres, a la training hubs? We could have all five NTL meets on the west coast, and fold all the provincial high school meets into OFSSA, for example. Maybe all the club meets in Toronto, and so on. Sounds like a formula for success.
"Curious" we need you at the national office of AC..........not !

lots of low numbers from high school athletes this year because the timing was poorly planned. NSSAF provincials are this weekend. Usually quite a few top athletes in high school will compete in this meet which would attract more fans and people in the stands.
