Lagat is truly amazing. 40 years old and still dropping the times he is running! Very impressive.
He already bettered two world marks this year (3000 by 12+ seconds and doing it indoors and the mile) and his time at Carlsbad is under the World Best for masters on the track. I'm sure if we wanted he could get the 800 as well. World records 800 - 5000 would be insanely impressive. I know Aouita held the records at 1500 - 5000 at one point, but thanks to Coe, never had the 800. Anyone think Lagat could run 1:48?? His mile suggests he could.

1:48 will be tough, as we know short speed and short speed endurance will suffer more (as opposed to other body systems) as aging occurs. But as you say, he has a chance, based on his indoor mile.

In Lagat's case, 40 is the new 25, or 23, or 21... -
