Safety First!
The BVPA Incident form can be found HERE. Please fill out if you have any type of incident during outdoor or indoor play.
Here are some simple safety reminders:
- BALL ON COURT. If you hit a ball onto another court or if a ball strays into your court, yell “Ball on court”. Stop all play immediately on both courts. For the court upon which the play was interrupted, replay the shot.
- PROTECT YOUR EYES. It is strongly recommended that you wear safety glasses or other eyewear while playing.
- DON’T RUN BACKWARDS. When returning a lob, turn around and run. Many serious falls and injuries occur when someone shuffles backwards.
- STRETCH, HYDRATE. You can prevent many injuries by doing a proper warm up and stretch before and after playing. As well, stay well hydrated with water or sport drinks, and energized with snacks.
- DON’T PLAY SICK OR TIRED. Not only is it a courtesy to the other players to not play when sick, you run the risk of overplaying your physical condition and injuring yourself. As well, listen to your body – if you are feeling tired, it is time to take a break or stop.
